Description
The Char Dham Edition
The Char Dham represents one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, a spiritual journey to four revered temples located across the majestic landscapes of India. These four holy sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—are deeply connected to the origins of the sacred rivers and the spiritual heritage of the Himalayas.
For centuries, pilgrims have travelled through some of India’s most challenging and breathtaking terrains to reach these temples, following a path of devotion, endurance, and self-discovery. Much like the mountains that surround them, the Char Dham pilgrimage represents a journey that demands determination, resilience, and a deep connection with nature.
The Char Dham Edition pays tribute to this extraordinary spiritual voyage by combining Swiss watchmaking excellence with the rich artistic traditions of India. Each timepiece features a unique handcrafted enamel dial, created locally in India by skilled artisans using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Every dial is individually made, giving each watch its own character and celebrating the exceptional craftsmanship of Indian enamel work.
The four variations of the edition are inspired by the four sacred temples:
1. Yamunotri
Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple marks the origin of the Yamuna River and is located in the western Garhwal Himalayas.
2. Gangotri
Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, Gangotri is the sacred source of the Ganges River, one of the most important rivers in Indian culture and spirituality.
3. Kedarnath
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kedarnath is one of the most revered temples in India and is situated at the foot of the majestic Kedarnath mountain range.
4. Badrinath
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Himalayas.
The Char Dham Edition represents a meeting of two worlds: the precision and heritage of Swiss mechanical watchmaking, and the artistry, spirituality, and craftsmanship of India. A limited creation honouring a timeless journey of faith, exploration, and human determination.
The Movement
The movement is specially made for Hercules in collaboration with Manufacture Horlogère Vallée de Joux, located in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountains. This hand-wound movement is distinguished by its double-barrel construction, providing exceptional energy and reliability. When fully wound, it delivers an impressive power reserve of 120 hours (5 days).
The movement bridges the worlds of horology and exploration through its engraved details. Inspired by the ancient maps used by explorers, the bridges feature contour lines representing the landscapes surrounding the Char Dham pilgrimage routes. Filled with BGW9 Swiss Super-LumiNova, these engraved lines glow bright blue in the darkness, symbolising the sacred rivers, the Himalayan night sky, and the spiritual journey that connects these four holy destinations.
